RIP Madeleine L’Engle

Publishers Weekly is reporting that L'Engle died last night:

Author Madeleine L’Engle died last night in Connecticut, at the age of 89. Best known for her 1963 Newbery Award winner A Wrinkle in Time and its sequels, L’Engle was the author of more than 60 books for adults and young readers, most of which were published by FSG. This spring, the Square Fish imprint of Holtzbrinck reissued L'Engle's Time Quintet in new editions.

One of my first exposures to the concept of hyperspace was through her book "A Wrinkle in Time." I have an autographed hardcover copy, which I got signed one year at the New York is Book Country street fair. I had the chance to thank her.

Oh, no! Such sad news.
Sad news. I think it was her book A Wrinkle In Time that first exposed me to science fiction. To this day I can still remember reading that book with complete fascination.
89 is a good run, but she will be missed.
My favorite book of all time is the third in her trilogy, "A Swiftly Tilting Planet," which can be understood on multiple levels. I first read it at fourteen and have re-read it so many times that my copy has had to be taped together. I always wanted to meet her and tell her how much her book influenced me, my writings, and my view of life, and now I'll never be able to do so. She was an amazing and gifted writer; her ideas were far ahead of her time, and the way she incorporated both spirituality and science is magnificent. The world has lost a great writer.
aw crap
This is such sad news. She was one of the first authors I started to follow, and the reason I developed such a love for books.
Baruch Dayan HaEmet. I loved Wrinkle as a kid, and when I was much older I found her other works, which I enjoyed as well. Wrinkle contributed several stock phrases to my store including "IT considers itself the happiest sadist".
I am so glad you were able to thank her. I am sad I never will be able to. [sniffle]
... oh, no. No.
Oh wow, that's sad.
wow. the whole bed rest thing sucks. I'm behind in everything and this is the first I've heard (read) this news. What a loss.
