The Eighth Grade

Yesterday, some of my 8th grade students discovered my LiveJournal. To them I say, "Hello!"

So if anyone reads any weird replies to my messages, you'll know where they're coming from.

It's interesting how students today understand that their teachers have lives outside of school. When I was growing up, as far as we all knew, teachers appeared in front of the classroom at the beginning of the school day and then disappeared at the end of the day. Who knew they had personal lives?

The funny thing is, Michael, I got to know you BECAUSE of your life outside of teaching...or spicifically, because of your SF writing. Although...I suppose for a while I figured you appeared around campus, then went home and spent your evening writing, and then appeared on campus again the next day. And then I saw you at a real SF convention (Arisia, I think.) And that blew that whole perception out of the water.

For your next Burstzine, you should have as your theme not "Writers and Their Parents" but "Writers and Their Mentors" ;)
