My Birthday

Today is my birthday, as noted by the fine folks over at This Day in Jewish History.

Here's a few highlights of what else happened on this day throughout history:
1801: The District of Columbia is placed under Congressional jurisdiction
1860: Abraham Lincoln gives a speech condemning slavery at Cooper Union in New York City
1897: Britain recognizes US authority over the western hemisphere
1922: The Supreme Court unanimously declares the 19th amendment constitutional, defending women's right to vote
1933: The German Parliamentary building, the Reichstag, catches fire, giving the Nazis an excuse to suspend civil liberties
1973: The American Indian Movement begins its occupation of Wounded Knee
1991: The first Gulf War is declared officially over
1993: The World Trade Center is shut down indefinitely, as investigators begin looking into the February 26 bombing

There's probably other events I've missed.

I share my birthday with John Steinbeck, Henry Wadsworth Longfellow, Ralph Nader, Elizabeth Taylor, and Chelsea Clinton, among others.

1897: Britain recognizes US authority over the western hemisphere

(I'd just like to point out that we have totally recanted that. Good grief, what were we thinking...?)
Ha!
Happy birthday!
Thank you!
Happy Birthday! You also share a birthday with my dad. :)

Last night we had Rosie make a "Grandpa- How much do I love you? --This much!" card with a fingerpaint hand print at either end of paper long enough to be to scale. She glued hearts in the middle that were left over from Valentines day. It's pretty cute if I do say so myself.
Thank you!

That sounds really nice. My daughters made me a card at school, and were supposed to present it to me this morning, but they were a little, um, tantrumy instead.
Happy birthday! :)
Thank you!
Happy Birthday.

1940 -- Martin Kamen and Sam Ruben discover carbon-14.
1951 -- The Twenty-second Amendment to the United States Constitution, limiting Presidents to two terms, is ratified.

And you also share a birthday with David Sarnoff.
I missed those...thanks!
Happy Birthday.

What did you have for your birthday lunch?
I worked from home today, so for lunch I went out to a local restaurant and had fish cakes and lamb shish kabob. For dinner, gnomi will be making pizza, as one of our daughters requested a pineapple pizza. I hope she actually eats it...
I love pineapple pizza and so does Jbear, my oldest step daughter.
She has never eaten it before, but got the idea into her head that she wants it. We shall see...
Happy birthday!
Thank you!
Happy birthday from us.
Thank you!
Does it seem odd to anyone else that that site uses the Gregorian calendar? (At any rate, happy birthday!)
Thank you!

You mean the Jewish history site? Well, I suppose they could do a second one with the Hebrew calendar, but yeah, I never thought of that before.
