Voting in the Evening - With Kids!

‎I'd like to thank everyone who offered their opinion on whether or not to bring Muffin and Squeaker to the polls today. After much discussion, gnomi and I decided not to vote first thing in the morning, as we've done for almost every election we've voted in since we've been married. Instead, we're voting after work, and we're taking the girls with us so they can one day recall their first presidential election.

The deciding factor was probably this PSA on voting from one of our town selectmen, Jesse Mermell.

Also, this gives me a topic for this week's The Brookline Parent column.

Comments

I almost always vote in the evening. Mornings tend to be just too busy, and after all, the polls around here are open till 8 PM. But there's an even bigger advantage: I passed by several polling places in my travels on election day morning, and all of them had long lines out the door. But when I went to my own polling place to vote ten minutes before closing, there was no line at all. This is typical -- I usually vote within an hour of closing, and I almost never have more than two or three people on line ahead of me.
